For over 11 years, the Cinema Club has met in South Florida. Originally called the Key Sunday Cinema Club, the very first screening was of UNDER THE SUN in January 2001 at the Regal Shadowwood theater. We moved to the Sunrise Cinemas at Mizner Park in fall 2003 and to the Deerfield 8 theaters in 2010– now owned by Paragon Theaters. We meet ten times a year for stimulating sneak previews and discussions -- all moderated by FAU Professor Mike Budd. Join today to become part of South Florida’s rich film history! Come early to grab a bite before the show– Paragon will have a nice assortment of breakfast foods available at reasonable prices, including coffee, bagels, muffins and pastries! The theater will open its doors to lobby seating early (before 10 am) for breakfast patrons.

Moderator Mike Budd

Mike Budd is a semi-retired professor of film studies at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.  He continues to teach courses like Documentary Film and Video, Asian Cinema, and Women and Film.  He has published books on the German Expressionist film classic, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (as well as the DVD commentary on the restored version of the film); television and commercial culture; and Disney.  In addition to his teaching and research, he enjoys travelling with his wife, Suzanne Sheber, attending film festivals, and visiting grandchildren.

I am so happy to be involved in the Cinema Club with Mike. While Mike and I have been seeing movies together for about 30 years, my love of film started long before that.  For years Mike and I talked about running a cinema club together, so we were thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved with the Cinema Club and with the Key Sunday Cinema Club previously.  We have been impressed with the consistent quality of programming and enjoy researching and discussing the films together before each club date.  When I am not watching movies I work as a tutor and university instructor preparing teachers and students to pass the Florida Teachers Certification Exam, the GRE, and other standardized tests.

I've been with the Cinema Club for 5 seasons and love it. Being exposed to world cinema is a great reason to wake up early on a Sunday, and I always find it a pleasure to hear the members' thoughts during our discussions. When not working with the club I teach editing at the Palm Beach Film School, lead digital video editing labs at Florida Atlantic University, and attempt to inch closer to my goal of being an independent filmmaker.
